As a therapist , my role is to explore your needs and determine if I would be the expert for your presenting problem. As a client, you should look for a therapist that establishes an empathetic relationship and you feel comfortable speaking to in session. I will only accept you as my client if I am able to identify how I am able to service you. If I am unable to provide you service, I will refer you out to another qualified professional.
There is no direct response for this question. It all depends on your need. Typically short term counseling sessions may last for three months and can continue long term. Treatment plans are used in therapy to assist with goals and help guide the treatment. The therapist will check in with your progress during each session and will recommend when counseling should end.
